A permanent school location - how we can help

An emerging trend over recent years—both in Australia and New Zealand—is martial arts schools setting up dedicated premises.

This is more common in Australia and has been for a while. In recent years, more and more schools in New Zealand and the wider Pacific have also taken this approach.

There are many factors driving this, but the main one seems to be that hiring community and school halls—where most martial arts schools originally started—is becoming increasingly difficult and expensive.
More and more schools are leasing or even purchasing their own premises. The advantages and disadvantages of leasing versus buying are a whole different story, and we will cover them in a future newsletter.

Having dedicated premises has many advantages - you can leave your school set up permanently. You can buy equipment and know that it is safe from misuse or even theft by others. You have complete control over what days and hours you can run classes, so you can run your own timetable that best suits you and your students. Finally, it creates a sense of professionalism and permanence for your school.

Since we started operating in 2020, we have been helping schools set up their own dedicated premises. Each of these schools has been different. We have helped set up schools that are grappling-based, striking-based, or a mixture of both. Each type has different equipment priorities. Some don’t know where to start. With our experience in first setting up our own school and then other schools, we can help you determine what you need and the priority.

For example, a grappling-based style will most likely need to buy mats first, while a striking style will most likely need to buy striking pads.

Most of the equipment we sell is also “Commercial Grade”. This means it is intended for use in gyms and large schools where the equipment is used heavily. This includes our flagship range of Century products.

This includes our mats, stand-up bags, hand and body pads, and other items that you will want to have in your school.

So, if you are setting up your own permanent training facility - whether in your garage, a small facility that you have leased or have sole access to or larger premises - contact us for advice on how to get started.
